A man has been arrested on suspicion of robbery after officers used trackers to find two stolen electric bikes in Everton.
At around 4.50pm on Tuesday 4 March, it was reported that three males approached two 13-year-old boys on Eaton Road and forcibly took their e-bikes.
The boys, who were uninjured but left shaken by the incident, returned home and their parents contacted the police.
Officers went to speak with the boys and were subsequently able to use trackers fitted on the e-bikes to locate them at a property in Everton.
A 22-year-old man was arrested at the location on suspicion of robbery and is currently in police custody. The two e-bikes have been seized and will be returned to their rightful owners.
Detective Inspector Steve Street said: “To target two young teenagers in such an aggressive manner and take their bikes is shocking this would have been a frightening experience for them.
“We hope the knowledge that these bikes were fitted with a tracker will serve as a strong deterrent to anyone who would consider attempting to steal such a vehicle.
“I also hope it demonstrates very clearly to owners the value of ensuring bikes, particularly high value bikes, are fitted with trackers.”
“We encourage owners mark and register their bikes at the Bike Register here: The National Cycle Database | BikeRegister to provide additional reassurance in the event of theft.”
