A man has been charged following a fatal collision in Huyton on Wednesday 5 March.

At around at 12.20pm officers were called to the junction of Tarbock Road and Manley Road to reports of a serious collision involving a male cyclist - who was riding a blue mountain bike - and a black Volkswagen ID5 car.

Sadly the cyclist, who has been named as 63-year-old Keith Hornby, was pronounced deceased after suffering serious injuries.

James O’Donnell, 34 years, of Cypress Road, Huyton has been charged with causing death by dangerous driving, aggravated vehicle taking, driving a motor vehicle when the alcohol level is above the limit, driving whilst unfit through drugs and failing to stop after a road accident and failing to report that road accident.

He was remanded into police custody and will appear at Wirral Adult Remand Court today, Friday 7 March.

Detective Sergeant Andy Roper, from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Although we have charged a man in connection with this incident, our work continues and I am appealing for anyone with any information or who may have witnessed any part of this incident to please get in touch as a matter of urgency.

“I would like to specifically request vehicle owners, businesses or residents on the following roads to check their CCTV and get in touch with our team. We can send a link to enable the footage to be uploaded for us to check, or alternatively we can attend and download any footage.

“The roads we are keen to speak with any witnesses on, or obtain footage from, are Manley Road, Elizabeth Road, Meadow Drive, Oakfield Drive, Deepfield Drive and Greenfield Drive between 12:20pm and 12:30pm.

“We are also keen to check any CCTV footage from Tarbock Road between the junctions with Charlwood Road and Manley Road between 12:15pm and 12:55pm.

“I would urge motorists who were in the vicinity at that time to please check your dashcam footage to see if it captured a black Volkswagen ID5. Any help we receive, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could assist our investigation.”
