A Section 60 Order has been extended in Walton giving officers additional powers to search suspects.
The order was put in place at 5pm today (Thursday 13 March) and will stay active until 5pm on Friday 14 March. The extension has been introduced to prevent incidents of disorder and criminality.
The Order, under S60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, gives officers enhanced powers to stop and search individuals in the area and is designed to minimise serious violence.
The area in Walton incorporates the area bounded by Queens Drive, Breeze Hill, Brewster Street, Commercial Road, Lambeth Road, Foley Street, Kearsley Street, Everton Valley, Walton Breck Road, Arkles Road, Arkles Lane, Utting Avenue and Queens Drive.
Inspector Ivan Martin said: “We have extended the Section 60 Order which allows us to stop and search people suspected of carrying weapons or planning any criminality. This order will give officers on the ground the ability to stop and search anyone suspected of carrying weapons or planning any criminality.
“We will maintain a highly visible police presence, and this is one of a number of measures we are taking to disrupt those who would assault or attack anyone in the area. This is to prevent violence and disorder and keep the public safe, and I would ask anyone with concerns to speak to our officers.”
Anyone with information about criminality and disorder is asked to DM @MerPolCC, message ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre on Facebook’.
