Detectives have charged seven men in connection with a serious incident in Kensington last week.

Just after 10pm on Wednesday 26 February, a number of reports were received that there was a group of men fighting in the street at the junction of Holt Road and Edge Lane, and one of the men was believed to have a knife.

At this stage of the inquiry it appears that a group of men had attacked a 31-year-old man, who suffered a stab wound to his leg. He was taken to hospital. His condition is not life threatening and he has since been discharged.

Eight men have since been arrested. The following seven have been charged:

- Mohammed Tariq Saleh, 30 , of Salisbury Road, Wavertree, was charged with Violent Disorder

- Sina Mohammadi, 24, of Preston Grove, Anfield, was charged with Violent Disorder

- Homed Heydari, 31, of Gresham Street, Kensington was charged with Violent Disorder

- Samim Habib, 29, of Gresham Street, Kensington was charged with Violent Disorder

- Fahad Al-Tharfiri, 19, of Fairclough Street, Liverpool City Centre was charged with Violent Disorder

- Ghalib Habibi, 18, of Solway Street East, Toxteth was charged with Section 18 GBH with intent; Violent Disorder and Possession of an offensive weapon

- Fawad Habib, 31, of Laurel Road, Kensington was charged with Violent Disorder

All seven appeared at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Saturday 1 March. They have been conditionally bailed and will next appear on Monday 31 March.

An 18-year-old man from Fairfield arrested on suspicion of Affray and Possession of an offensive weapon remains in custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Natalie Charlesworth said: “This is very much a live investigation and our enquiries continue, so I would strongly advise that people are mindful of this so as not to jeopardise proceedings. We understand the concern that such an incident causes in our communities and we will continue to provide a visible presence in the area and respond to all information that comes in.

“From our initial enquiries, we believe that the men involved are known to each other and as such this is being treated as a targeted attack. Nonetheless, I’d still encourage anyone to come forward directly to police or anonymously via Crimestoppers and we will continue to take action.

“The incident was at a busy junction and as such we believe that there will still be witnesses who potentially hold vital information, or people with footage or images which may assist. I’d ask anyone passing the junction at around 10pm to check any devices as soon as you can.”
