A 20-year-old Wirral man has been jailed for four years for attempted robbery and possession of a bladed weapon.

Zack Wylde, of Bulkeley Road, Seacombe pleaded guilty and was sentenced on Monday 3 March 2025 at Liverpool Crown Court to four years for attempted robbery and 18 months for the possession of a bladed weapon, to run concurrently.

At around 4.45pm on Saturday 20 July 2024 officers were called to a convenience store on Kings Road, Wallasey. The shopkeeper made the call after Wylde entered the store threatening to stab him.

Wearing all black with his face covered, Wylde pulled a large kitchen knife from his waistband, approached the counter, and demanded cash before trying to grab the till. The till was secured to the counter and Wylde continued to wave the knife in the shopkeeper’s face.

Wylde then turned to one of the customers and threatened them before leaving the shop. A short time later he came back to the store and was arrested by officers after matching the witness’s description.

Detective Inspector Sarah Wilkinson said: “This was a shocking, terrifying, violent experience for both the shopkeeper and customers.

“Our officers are dedicated to disrupting the activities of anyone who brings harm and distress to our communities through their criminality. We will not tolerate individuals that think targeting people and businesses in this way is acceptable and are committed to pursuing these offenders and putting them before the courts.

“Antisocial behaviour and criminality cause misery for members of the public wishing to go about their daily business and business owners simply wanting to make a living.

“We welcome this sentencing as it sends a clear message to criminals who have no thought for anyone other than themselves, and their criminal intent and greed. We want to reassure the public that if you let us know we will take action.”
