Man jailed after one punch attack in St Helens

A man has been jailed after he punched a man outside the Sefton pub in St Helens town centre that left him with life-changing injuries.

Josh Hoskison, aged 25 of Redruth Avenue, St Helens was sentenced to 20 months in prison at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, Wednesday 29 June.

In the early hours of the morning on Wednesday 1 September the victim, a 69-year-old man, was on Baldwin Street at around 1.30am when he was assaulted by Hoskison causing him to fall to the floor and bang his head.

The man was taken to hospital with a head injury and suffered life-changing injuries.

Hoskison was later arrested and charged on Sunday 17th April.

Detective Inspector Lisa Milligan said: “This was an unprovoked one punch attack that could have resulted in fatal injuries.

“We hope Hoskison’s sentencing gets the message out there that a split-second decision can destroy lives and that ultimately even a single punch can cause life-changing injuries or even kill.

“Merseyside Police continues to work with local authorities, licensees and businesses across the region to ensure that our region remains a safe place to enjoy a night out. In busy nightspots across the region, the Force has dedicated officers who patrol the areas and carry out various preventative operations, including safety arches and licensed premise visits.
