We can confirm we received a report of a disturbance at a home in Old Swan in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 9 August.
At around 1am it was reported that several people had been injured inside a property on Haslingden Close.
Officers attended and found four people inside the property who had sustained injuries consistent with a bladed object being used; three non-serious and a fourth person required hospital treatment to a chest injury.
Following further enquiries, two people were located at a nearby address and arrested on suspicion of section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent.
In total, we have arrested eight people on suspicion of section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent and affray.
Six men, aged 48, 50, 56, 54, 57 and 30, and two women aged 54 and 35, were all arrested and will be questioned by officers.
Our enquiries are ongoing as we try to establish the circumstances of this incident and officers are currently in the area to conduct CCTV and doorbell enquiries and also speak to potential witnesses.
Detective Inspector Katie Coote said: “We are in the early stages of investigating this incident to establish the circumstances of what happened.
“Officers were able to arrest eight people shortly after it was reported and at this time we are not looking for anyone else in connection to this incident.
“This will understandably cause concern to local residents, but I want to reassure them that we have launched a thorough investigation and our enquiries are ongoing.
“If you live in the area, please check your doorbell and CCTV footage to see if you captured anything suspicious at the time of the incident. If you have any information, please come forward.”
