Man arrested following Smithdown Road stabbing

We have arrested a man following a stabbing of a 19-year-old in Wavertree on 29 June.

At around 4.35pm, officers were called to Smithdown Road after receiving reports that a 19-year-old man had been stabbed in the leg during a fight involving a group of men. The victim was taken to hospital and later released.

An 18-year-old man from Toxteth was arrested on Wednesday night (10 August) on suspicion of section 18 wounding with intent and possession of a Class B controlled drug (cannabis). He has been conditionally bailed.

Enquiries into the incident are ongoing  

Detective Inspector Neil Dillon said: “We continue to devote significant resources and conduct targeted operations across Merseyside to rid our streets of knife crime.
 
“I would urge anyone thinking about carrying a knife to think again, and spare yourself and others the risk of serious injury, and save yourself time in police custody and a jail sentence.
 
“We are out on patrols, conducting stop searches, executing warrants and arresting suspects, or searching land and homes where we believe knives have been stored every single day.

“Getting involved in knife crime is simply not worth the risk.”
