We are appealing for information following a serious assault at a public house in Thatto Heath, St Helens, this evening (Saturday, 6 August).
Officers were called to reports of a man having been stabbed at the Vine Tavern on Elephant Lane at about 8.55pm.
When officers arrived the man was being treated by paramedics for stab wounds to his arms, chest and head. It is believed that two offenders, one armed with a knife, were involved in the attack.
The victim has been taken to hospital for treatment for his injuries which are believed to be serious, but not life threatening.
Crime Scene Investigators are carrying out forensic examinations at the scene and officers are currently making house-to-house inquiries, they will also be examining CCTV footage in a bid to identify the offenders. High visibility patrols will also be in the area to reassure the local community.
Detective Inspector Leanne Toole said: “The investigation is in its early stages and officers will be carrying out extensive inquiries in a bid to identify the offenders. I would appeal to anyone who was in the Vine Tavern, or who may have information which could help us with our inquiries to please contact us.
“I would also ask people who were in the area to check dashcam or CCTV footage just in case they may have captured something which may be vital to the case.”
Anyone with information is asked to DM @MerPolCC or @CrimestoppersUK on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 966 of 6 August.
