More than 1,000 cannabis plants recovered on Deysbrook Lane

Officers have recovered cannabis plants growing near Deysbrook Lane, West Derby. 

At around 12.20pm yesterday, Monday 8 August, we received a report that cannabis plants were being grown on land near the entrance to Tesco car park. 

Officers attended and recovered around 1,021 plants, which have now been cleared. 

Enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible and anyone with any information is asked to contact police. 

Matt Smith, Head of our Cannabis Dismantling Team said: “Thanks to a report we received from a member of the public, large amount of illegal drugs have now been removed from a public place and can no longer put our community at risk.

“Criminals involved in the growing of cannabis are often involved in serious organised crime and the associated violence and criminality that this brings -  by removing these plants we’re making our streets safer. 

“If you know anything about these plants being grown or have witnessed anything suspicious in the Deysbrook Lane area recently, please let us know and help us take action to find the people responsible and bring them to justice. 

“Similarly if you have any information on suspected drugs being grown or supplied where you are, let us know and we will keep taking this positive action.”

Some of the signs that cannabis is being grown are:
- Strange smells and sounds
- Frequent and varied visitors to a property, often at unusual times
- Gardening equipment being taken into a property, such as plant pots, fertiliser, fans and industrial lighting
- Windows are sealed and covered or the curtains are permanently closed
- Heat from an adjoining property
- Birds gathering on a roof in cold weather
Individually these activities may seem commonplace, however, together may indicate something more suspicious
