I joined Merseyside Police in 1993 from university, serving the majority of my career in Merseyside Police, starting in Prescot & St Helens, on foot patrol. I have served as a detective in every rank, working across the force in both reactive and proactive investigations and operations.
I am an accredited Senior Investigating Officer PIP3, PIP4 and Review Officer, a Strategic Firearms Commander and a Public Order and Public Safety Gold Commander. I also hold a BA (hons) degree from Liverpool University and have a Masters degree in Leadership.
In 2019, I successfully completed the FBI National Academy Senior Leadership Programme at Quantico Virginia and successfully completed the Strategic Command Course in 2020.
Having led the North West Regional Organised Crime Unit until February 2022 I was delighted to return to my ‘home force’ as Chief Officer lead for the Investigations, Intelligence and Serious & Organised Crime portfolio and was promoted to Deputy Chief constable in April 2023.
Throughout my career I have supported and led on a number of portfolios, including protecting vulnerable people, surveillance, counter terrorism, homicide, firearms, domestic violence and have built a strong network and harnessed positive professional relationships with key leaders, partners and communities across the Merseyside region.
I am the national lead Chief Officer for SOCPA legislation, UKPPS (protected persons service)e and Crime Data Integrity.
I am married with two sons and in my spare time I enjoy all sports, in particular outdoors and maintain a diminishing desire to run one more marathon.
From mid-February to April 2025 I will assume the role of Temporary Chief Constable while Serena is seconded to the College of Policing as Cohort Director for the Executive Leadership Programme.
