I am a chartered accountant, with a degree in accounting & finance (gained as a mature student), and over 40 years’ experience in finance and business.
My career to date has been spent within the private sector (including Lex plc and the Bank of Scotland) and more recently the public sector (including NHS Trusts and NICE).
My previous role was as Chief Finance Officer at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals FT where I was responsible for finance, commercial and business development, procurement, asset replacement planning and purchasing. I also sat on a number of local and regional collaboration boards and committees.
The Resources portfolio that I lead, include our Corporate Assets (Estates, Facilities, Vehicle Fleet, Estates Capital Programme), Finance and Procurement, and ICT/ Digital Future Strands. I also am the lead for the Internal Audit Service.
I chair the NPCC Sustainability Strategy and Policy Group, and I am working closely with the Police and Crime Commissioner, the Chief Constable, and fellow Chief Officers, to make Merseyside Police, the most sustainable police force in the country. I am also the NPCC Finance Coordination Committee Vice Chair. I am also Chief Officer Executive Sponsor for the Force Disability Support Network (DSN).
I expect the corporate and support teams that I lead to provide the best service possible to the organisation, and to make sure every bit of resource is gained, and every penny spent wisely.
I have led and supported numerous improvement programmes that have focussed on reducing waste, enabling more operational teams to be more efficient, and using all of our assets (including people, IT, estate, vehicles, and equipment) better.
I live within Merseyside, and I want the Merseyside public to have the best informed, supported, and equipped police force in the country, focussing on improving long term social value.
I have one daughter. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, following my football team Wigan Athletic, travelling, attempting to learn Spanish, and trying to keep as fit and healthy as possible.
