Here in Merseyside, we have introduced a number of measures since we set out our strategy in 2022 and we are continually looking at ways to improve our service to women and girls. We are committed to listening to the voices of women and girls to understand what more policing can do to keep them safe, and putting effective measures in place to respond to those fears and concerns.
The work being undertaken by Merseyside Police is integrally linked into the National Police Chiefs' Council (NPCC) framework, which has been developed for all UK police forces.
We have a dedicated ‘Unity’ team to investigate rape and serious sexual offences. We have reviewed how we investigate rape and sexual assault to improve the service we offer to victim-survivors and ensure that more cases reach court.

We'll offer to refer you to a specialist support service, for example to an Independent Sexual Violence Advisor (ISVA). They can support you throughout the criminal justice process.
You can also refer yourself to a support service.
We are working with licensed venues and partners across Merseyside to help keep people safe when out and about. This could be on a night out, on a date, meeting friends or other situations. The Ask for Angela scheme aims to reduce sexual violence and vulnerability in licensed premises.
