Safer Streets Summer is a national campaign being delivered here in Merseyside to tackle the types of crime that matters most to the public. During the summer months crime such as antisocial behaviour, drug dealing, burglary, road safety, serious violence including knife crime and personal robbery, sexual offences and retail crime can have a serious impact on people’s lives.
These are all areas of focus for the Safer Streets Summer campaign, which forms part of the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee announced by the Government earlier this month. As part of the campaign our local policing officers and officers in specialist teams will be demonstrating the work they do every day of the year to keep our communities safe.
Our social media channels on Facebook, Nextdoor, Instagram, YouTube, TikTok and X (formerly Twitter) will be showing what each team is up to and how our various policing operations are making communities safer this summer.
Our website also has a dedicated news section where you can see who we’ve brought to justice, who we’re still looking for, and where our investigations into ongoing crimes and incidents are up to.
Local policing officers, together with officers from specialist teams, including targeted policing, investigations, air support, traffic, dogs and mounted will be working together to tackle local concerns raised by residents at regular policing surgeries taking place in libraries, coffee shops and local community hubs.
Our website now has every neighbourhood policing officer listed on it so that no matter where in Merseyside you live or work, you’ll know who is working to keep crime down and keep you safe.
Visit the 'Your area' section to see what the current policing priorities are and when the next community meeting is taking place near you. The community meetings give you an opportunity to have your say and hold us to account.
As part of the Safer Streets Summer campaign, we will also be shining a spotlight on the vital, often unseen work that goes into protecting communities year-round. These include the following operations:
Operation Limit
Aimed at reducing the number of persons killed or seriously injured on the road by raising awareness of the dangers of drink driving or driving whilst impaired through drugs.
The main objectives are to reduce the number of people killed and seriously injured because of drink and drug driving and to deter offences of drink and drug driving by means of visible enforcement during key times.
Operation Hunted
A proactive policing response to locating and arresting named and wanted offenders, drastically reducing the threat, harm and risk they pose to the communities of Merseyside and protect vulnerable victims of crime.
Operation Nightsafe
A force wide hi-visibility operation aimed at preventing crime and promoting safety within the nighttime economy. This includes addressing issues such as ASB and serious violence in and around licensed premises.
Operation Nightsafe aims to create a safer environment for people working in and socialising during the nighttime economy and involves working with St Helens Licensing, Merseyside Police Licensing and the Security Industry Authority.
Operation Empower
A proactive response to prevent incidents of sexual violence by targeting people behaving in a predatory manner during the nighttime economy.
Operation Target
A major policing operation which aims to tackle serious violent crime. The operation will focus on gun and knife crime as well as other offences including serious assaults, armed robberies and drug use.
Working closely with our community partners, Operation Target will use intelligence-led police tactics, dedicated resources and new equipment to make our communities an even safer place to live, work and travel.
Operation Castle
A dedicated team tackling series-linked burglaries and working alongside teams of detectives that investigate crime across the five local authority areas in Merseyside.
Safer Streets Summer is a commitment to not just reacting to crime and antisocial behaviour, but preventing it and deterring it.
Together we are creating safer streets this summer!
