We can confirm that a man has been arrested following a serious assault in Liverpool this afternoon, Thursday 4 July.
At around 3.55pm, it was reported that two males had been involved in an altercation inside a premises on Smithdown Road, near the junction with Cullen Street.
Emergency services attended the scene and a man was taken to hospital after sustaining a slash wound to his arm.
A 52-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of Section 18 wounding and he has been taken into police custody.
Officers remain at the scene to carry out the very early stages of the investigation and to also reassure the community.
Chief Inspector Chris Bland said: “We are appealing for anyone with information to come forward as we look to establish the circumstances of this incident.
“Thanks to the fast response from our officers, we were able to arrest a man at the scene, but our investigation is still in the very early stages and we would ask anyone with information to please come forward.
“This incident happened when there would have been plenty of people in the area. If you witnessed what happened or have any information at all, please come forward.”
