Continued appeal for information following injury shooting in Kirkby

We are today, Monday 3 June, continuing to appeal for information following an injury shooting in Kirkby on Saturday night (1 June).

A report was received at around 9pm that a 31-year-old man had been shot on Ormonde Crescent. The victim self-presented at hospital for treatment to a knee injury. He remains in hospital in a stable condition.

It was reported that a group of males, who were riding bikes and wearing all black clothing, had been seen on Ormonde Crescent just prior to the shooting and they subsequently fled the scene onto Mintor Road and then towards Simonswood Lane.

We have stepped up high visibility patrols in the local area and a mobile police station will be in areas of Kirkby over the next week.

Detective Chief Inspector Phil Atkinson said: “We are currently exploring a number of lines of enquiry and at this stage believe this to be a targeted attack.

“The public’s help is vital in this investigation and we would ask anyone who was in the area of Ormonde Crescent on Saturday night who saw or heard anything suspicious or captured anything on CCTV, dashcam, mobile phone or doorbell camera to contact us.

“We know that incidents such as this do cause shock and concern in our communities but I want the public to feel reassured that we remain committed to finding who is responsible and bringing them to justice and removing guns from our streets.”

Knowsley neighbourhood Chief Inspector Christopher Ruane said: “We know the majority of people who live in Knowsley are law abiding citizens who want to live safely and peacefully with their families.

“We want to help them do that by policing robustly and effectively but my message would be please do not tolerate this type of behaviour from the small minority who want to commit crimes and cause fear in your community.

“Please have the courage to speak up and tell us who they are. If you don’t want to speak to the police directly then give your information anonymously via Crimestoppers.”
