Detectives appeal for footage following assault of police officers in Toxteth

Detectives are appealing for any CCTV, dashcam or mobile phone footage following an assault against police officers in Toxteth in March.

At around 4.10pm on Monday 18 March, officers stopped males in North Hill Street as part of a Section 60 order in place in the area. Two of the males were reportedly abusive and aggressive to officers, and both subsequently resisted and assaulted officers.

Two 16-year-old boys, both from Toxteth, were arrested on suspicion of Common assault of an emergency worker and Obstructing police. They remain under investigation.

Enquiries are ongoing including CCTV and detectives are looking to obtain any images or footage that was taken as the incident unfolded.

Detective Inspector Michael Fletcher said: “We are aware that a crowd gathered and that members of the public were filming the incident. As part of this investigation, we need to obtain all available footage, whether from mobile phones, CCTV, dashcams or other devices, and establish the full circumstances. 
​
“The Section 60 order was in place following previous violence in the area, and is a vital tool in making those communities safer. Violence against the emergency services will not be tolerated, and we will thoroughly investigate all such incidents and support any officers and staff who are assaulted while carrying out their duties, often whilst in volatile situations.”
