A man has been jailed following an incident in Bootle on Saturday 2 November.
At around 9.40pm we responded to a report that man had made threats and was in possession of weapons inside a property on Bedford Road.
Armed officers attended and a man was arrested. A search of the property was carried out and no weapons were found. No injuries were reported.
Yesterday, Sunday 3 November, 28-year-old Drew Matthews was charged with sending malicious communication.
Today, Monday 4 November, Matthews, of Strand Road, Bootle, pleaded guilty at Wirral Magistrates Court and was sentenced to 10 weeks in prison along with paying court costs/fine.
Detective Inspector Paul McVeigh said: “We are thankfully that no weapons were found at the property. However this was a flagrant waste of public resources where officers attended the incident which could have been needed in an emergency situation elsewhere.
“We hope this sentencing sends a clear message that this behaviour of making such calls will not tolerated and we will do everything we can to investigate an offender and pursue action through the courts.”
