Two men were arrested after packages containing a large quantity of cannabis was intercepted before it could be delivered.
Just before 7am on Thursday 19 September, we were called by a parcel delivery service after two packages were found to contain cannabis.
Officers attended and seized 32kg of cannabis. Following a search of the property the packages were destined for in Liverpool, cocaine and Xanax were found and seized.
A 62-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class B drugs (cannabis), possession of a Class A controlled drug (cocaine) and possession of a Class C controlled drug (xanax).
A 35-year-old man from Harrogate was arrested on suspicion of being concerned in the supply of Class B drugs (cannabis).
They have been released under investigation.
Detective Inspector Mike Fletcher said: “The supply of illegal drugs depends upon violence, intimidation and exploitation of vulnerable people.
“It has no place in the heart of our communities in Merseyside, and every seizure of illegal drugs hits the dealers where it hurts - in their pockets.
“Using police and community intelligence, officers patrol the road network and carry out warrants, stop checks and land searches all year round to disrupt the supply of drugs, take them off our streets and bring those involved to justice.
“We know that this proactivity means drug dealers adopt various methods in an attempt to evade detection.
“We work with partners across parcel delivery services to stay one step ahead, and prevent them from lining their pockets through criminality.
“This incident illustrates the value of that work, and we will continue to do everything in our power to stop the cycle of drug supply in Merseyside.”
