We have this evening, Wednesday 18 September, charged two men with firearms offences following a shooting in St Helens.
At around 10.30pm on Monday 22 July it was reported that a 49-year-old man had been shot in the leg on Boxwood Gardens.
Emergency services attended the scene and the victim was taken to hospital. He was later discharged.
An extensive investigation was carried out by the Firearms Investigation Team.
Tonight we have charged Adam Wilson, 28, of Francis Street, St Helens and David Bowen, 33, of Herbert Street, St Helens, with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of ammunition with intent to endanger life, attempted robbery and section 18 assault. Wilson was also charged with an additional offence of burglary.
Both men have been remanded into custody to appear at Wirral magistrates court tomorrow, Thursday 19 September.
Detective Inspector John Mullen said: “Tackling gun crime and bringing offenders to justice remains a high priority for Merseyside Police. We would continue to ask the public to support us by giving us information about who is carrying or using firearms or where they are being stored.
“It is only by working together that we can seize firearms and prevent them from being used to cause fear or harm on our streets.”
