We have arrested a man and a woman on suspicion of drug supply offences following an incident in Birkenhead yesterday, Thursday 14 August.
At around midday, officers on foot patrol sighted two people acting suspiciously on wasteland off Borough Road East. Both were detained on Jackson street and were searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act. A large quantity of suspected heroin and crack cocaine was seized, along with cash and phones.
A 35-year-old woman from Higher Bebington was arrested on suspicion of Possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.
A 40-year-old man from Woodchurch was arrested on suspicion of Possession with intent to supply Class A drugs.
Both were taken to police stations for questioning. The man has been released under investigation while the woman remains in custody at the time of writing.
Wirral Local Policing Chief Inspector Dave Morgan said: “The two people arrested will now be subject to a full investigation. Drug supply causes devastation in our communities, from the harm caused to users, exploitation of vulnerable people, and links to other crime, including violence.
“This was a smart piece of police work but we also take action on other information provided by those people who live and work in areas affected.
“If you know anything about where drugs are being supplied, and by whom, come forward directly or anonymously via Crimestoppers, which is independent of police.
“Working alongside our partners, we are determined to do all in our power to reduce the harm caused by drug supply across Wirral.”
