A 34-year-old man from Wirral has been arrested on suspicion of stalking following an incident in Birkenhead this afternoon (Friday, 15 August).
At 12.13pm a woman called police to say that a male had been following and filming her as she was pushing her baby in a pram round Birkenhead Park.
Officers attended and the male, who is white British and born on the Wirral, was arrested on suspicion of stalking.
He has been taken to a police station where he is being questioned.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing and CCTV and witness enquiries are being carried out.
We are aware that there is incorrect information circulating online and we would urge people not to speculate in relation to this incident.
Detective Inspector Peter Rexwinkel said: “We understand the distress and concern experienced by the mother who had taken her baby to Birkenhead Park and can reassure the local community that this incident will be thoroughly investigated and we treat all incidents such as this extremely seriously.
“If you were in the area and saw a man acting suspiciously in Birkenhead Park, or have any information or footage which could assist our investigation, please come forward.
“We have proactive uniformed and plain clothes patrols in the park and surrounding area to ensure that local community can enjoy the park safely."
