Merseyside Police has appointed former Assistant Chief Constable Paul White to the role of Deputy Chief Constable of the Force.

Starting work in his new role today, he has served in the police for nearly 32 years, beginning his career as a Constable in Response Policing at Marsh Lane in Bootle in September 1993.

Dep Chief Con White performed a number of unformed roles before being appointed Temporary Assistant Chief Constable for Response & Resolution in March 2022.

He then retired in May this year before successfully applying for the role of Deputy Chief Constable.

Dep Chief Con White, who lives in Merseyside and is married with three children, has been police Gold commander for a number of high profile events and incidents in Merseyside such as the visit of the Giants, the Aintree Festival, Eurovision, the disorder of Summer 2024 and numerous high profile football operations. He was also Strategic Firearms Commander for the bombing at Liverpool Women’s Hospital as well as a number of other significant firearms operations.

Deputy Chief Constable Paul White said: “It is a genuine privilege to return to Merseyside Police as Deputy.

“Having retired just a few months ago, the opportunity to come back as Deputy Chief Constable was one I simply could not miss.

“This is an outstanding organisation and having the chance to help shape its strategy and future direction is an honour.

“I’m immensely proud to have the opportunity to return to a Force I know extremely well, alongside colleagues I have tremendous respect for.

“This force has risen to huge challenges in response to a number of critical and major incidents in recent years, and I feel reassured that I will be helping to lead ranks of officers and staff who have proved time and time again how capable they are no matter what they have faced.”

Dep Chief Con White added: “Our communities depend on our day-to-day policing, and they rightly expect us to continue to constantly improve in every aspect so that the service they receive is among the best in the country.

“My promise to the public is that I will help drive this improvement, focussing on excellence in the basics and ensuring that our Force gets better and better.”
