We have arrested two teenagers following an incident outside South Wirral High School earlier this morning.
At around 8.40am today (Tuesday 9 December), it was reported that a 15-year-old boy had been threatened by two other males who reportedly had a bladed weapon on Plymyard Avenue.
No one was injured during the incident.
Officers attended the scene and following an investigation two suspects were detained in Liverpool city centre.
The two males, aged 15 and 17, have been arrested on suspicion of affray and they are currently in police custody.
Inspector Andrew Murphy said: “Following the concerning incident this morning, we have arrested both suspects only a few hours after it was first reported to us. They will now be questioned about what happened.
“I’m sure this incident caused concern for our community in Eastham, particularly parents who have children at the school, but I sincerely hope our response shows how seriously we take these reports.
“Although inquiries are ongoing to establish the circumstances of the incident, we believe at this stage of the investigation that the suspects and the victim are known to each other and this was a targeted incident.
“To carry a bladed weapon on our streets and use it to threaten or cause intimidation is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated by Merseyside Police.
“The use of knives and any weapons is reckless and can have tragic consequences. I urge anyone with information on who is carrying them and where they are being stored to get in touch so we can act, or call Crimestoppers anonymously.”
Anyone with information can call 101 or DM @MerPolCC on social media or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
