We have charged a Wirral man with robbery.
Anthony Hylands, 40, was charged in connection with an incident at Farmfoods on Salisbury Street in Birkenhead on Wednesday 22 January in which a female shop worker was pushed to the floor and assaulted after challenging a male attempting to steal food.
Hylands, of St Paul’s Road, Seacombe, was remanded into custody to appear at Wirral Magistrates Court today, Tuesday 28 January.
Detective Chief Inspector Pete Stephenson said: “It is unacceptable for someone to be assaulted for just doing their job.
“When incidents such as this happen we will always take action to find the people responsible and bring them to justice.
"Robbery within retail premises is not a victimless crime and has a huge impact on not only the business but the community as well.”
