We are continuing to appeal for witnesses following a road traffic collision involving two cyclists in Huyton yesterday, Monday 16 June.
Just after 6.30pm it was reported that a pedal cyclist and a male on a Sur-ron electric bike were in collision on Princess Drive. The male on the black Sur-ron bike then rode off towards Liverpool Road.
The pedal cyclist, a man in his 40s, was taken to hospital with a potentially life-threatening injury to the head. He is in a critical but stable condition.
Road closures are in place along Princess Drive and Gretton Road while we investigate the incident. We ask motorists to please avoid the area and find an alternative route. Thank you for your patience.
Detective Inspector Steve Byrom said “I would like to thank the local community for their help so far with this investigation, including those who helped at the scene. I would also like to thank them for their patience while we kept multiple roads closed to carry out evidential work at various scenes. It is now a priority for us to get answers on what occurred, and we are working to establish key facts.
"This collision happened at a busy time of day on a busy road, so I would appeal directly to anyone who saw anything and who hasn't yet spoken with my team to please get in touch. The incident occurred at approximately 6.25pm yesterday (Monday) at the junction with Princess Drive and St David Road in Huyton.
“I would also ask motorists to please check your dashcam footage to urgently review it. These devices can often capture key evidence in the moments leading up to the incident without the driver of the vehicle being aware. Any help we receive, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could assist our investigation.
"Finally, I would appeal to any homeowners or businesses with CCTV systems to either check for a black Sur-ron as it may be crucial to our investigation to try and enable us to provide answers to the man’s family.”
