The deadline is looming for community groups in Wirral to apply for funding to help boost five neighbourhoods and help tackle crime and anti-social behaviour.
Community groups with projects benefiting Woodchurch, Beechwood, Noctorum, Rock Ferry and New Ferry can apply to receive up to £2,000 at participatory budget events taking place in each of the areas in April and May.
The scheme is part of the EVOLVE Wirral partnership between Merseyside Police and Wirral's Community Safety Team with funding provided by the Merseyside Police and Crime Commissioner from money seized from criminals under the Proceeds of Crime Act.
Projects are encouraged to focus on one or more themes including health and wellbeing, crime and anti-social behaviour prevention, youth engagement, environmental issues, or community cohesion.
The application deadline for this small grants’ scheme is Friday, March 14th 2025 at 12pm.
Those with eligible bids will be invited to see their projects put to a public vote one of the five participatory budget events that aim to unite communities and celebrate the initiatives making a difference in their areas.
Wirral Local Policing Superintendent Matthew Moscrop said: “In May we will be approaching two years since the community launch of EVOLVE Wirral.
“We have seen some significant successes in that time and with our partners we continue to work hard to make Woodchurch, Noctorum and Beechwood safer places to live, work and visit.
“EVOLVE is Merseyside’s response to the Home Office’s Clear, Hold, Build strategy and is a long-term commitment from police and partners to improve communities that have been significantly blighted by serious and organised crime.
“These five participatory budget events offer community groups the opportunity to receive funding to help them deliver key projects that will help make a difference to residents and we’re excited to see the initiatives that are brought to the table.”
EVOLVE Wirral is a multi-agency partnership that uses a combination of targeted policing tactics, partner activities, and resident input to safeguard communities and prevent organised crime groups from operating.
New Ferry and Rock Ferry have been included in this year’s participatory budget schemes and will use the funding to tackle crime and anti-social behaviour, as well as contribute to New Ferry's regeneration.
