A man from Waterloo who assaulted and harassed his victim over a period of two years has been jailed.

Callum Jones, aged 24, of Murat Grove, Waterloo has been jailed for four years and six months for assault causing actual bodily harm, battery, criminal damage and harassment at Liverpool Crown Court yesterday, Tuesday 13 January.

Jones was also given a 15-year restraining order against his victim.

The court heard of several incidents including repeated assaults, non‑fatal strangulation, criminal damage, coercive and controlling behaviour, threats to kill, threats towards children, and harassment.

His victim reported numerous incidents to Merseyside Police involving physical assaults that required hospital treatment, threats towards her family and damage to her address.

Jones was then arrested and charged in 2025.

Detective Constable Ben Thomas said: “This was a shocking period of abuse by Callum that stretched over two years and it is right that he is now behind bars as a result of his actions.

“Domestic abuse comes in many forms, it isn’t just physical – it can be emotional, sexual, financial or controlling behaviour and it can happen to anyone, regardless of gender and social status.  I would urge anyone who may be a victim of domestic abuse, or know someone who is a victim, to please reach out for help. We take reports of domestic abuse extremely seriously, and we are here to listen and support you and bring perpetrators to justice.”

If you have any non-urgent information on domestic abuse – if you are a victim or believe someone you know is a victim - you can contact us via direct message @MerPolCC on Twitter, ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook or contact @CrimestoppersUK, anonymously on 0800 555 111.

If you are in immediate danger, always call 999. If you ring 999 and are not in a safe position to speak to us then cough, or tap, the phone and press 55, when prompted. This will alert the operator that you need assistance and we will provide support.

You can also request information under Clare’s Law, the Domestic Violence Disclosure Scheme. This scheme enables the police to release information about any previous history of violence or abuse a person might have.

Further information on the local and national support available can be found here:  Support organisations for victims of domestic violence | Merseyside Police

We recently launched our Violence against Women and Girls (VAWG) campaign to put the voices of women and girls at the heart of our work to tackle VAWG. You can find out more about the campaign here: www.merseyside.police.uk/vawg
