A rifle and bullets have been found inside a skip in Kirkby at the weekend.
On Saturday 10 January we received a report that an AK47-style rifle and 70 rounds of ammunition were wrapped inside a bed sheet and a plastic bag and hidden among a pile of rubbish inside a skip in Knowsley Industrial Park.
Officers are carrying out enquiries, and the weapon is confirmed to be a viable firearm.
The rifle has been made safe and has been forensically recovered for examination.

Detective Inspector Chris Clark, from the Firearms Investigation Team, said: “We rely on community intelligence to discover where weapons are being stored and who is using them.
“I would ask that the public continue to be our eyes and ears. If you do find anything, don’t touch it but call 101 and we will take it from there.”
If you have got any information about the use or storage of weapons please contact Merseyside Police social media desk via X @MerPolCC or on Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’.
