We are appealing for information following a report of a serious collision involving a cyclist and two vehicles in New Brighton today, Friday 5 June.
At around 11.30am emergency services were called to a report of a collision where a cyclist had swerved to avoid a light-coloured Fiat 500 and collided into a stationary van on Rowson Street.
The cyclist, a man in his 50s, has been taken to hospital.
The van driver stopped at the scene and is assisting officers with their enquiries. While the Fiat 500 drove off and enquiries are being carried out to locate the driver.
Detective Sergeant Kurt Timpson, the Lead Investigating Officer from Merseyside Police's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “We are very keen to speak to the driver of the Fiat 500 to establish the circumstances of what happened, so I urge you to please get in touch as soon as possible.
“I also urge those with CCTV, doorbell footage or dashcam systems in the area to please check your footage and the events leading up to the collision or the moments thereafter. Any help we receive, no matter how insignificant it may seem, could assist with enquiries.”
Rowson Street and the surrounding roads are currently closed, and we ask motorists to avoid the area and find an alternative route. We thank you for your patience while we deal with this incident.
