A man was arrested following an assault in Kensington this morning, Monday 1 June.
Just before 8.25am officers witnessed an incident where a man sustained a laceration to his face on Prescot Road.
The victim, a man in his 50s, was treated by paramedics at the scene.
The offender ran off however was quickly detained by officers.
A 28-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of a knife blade in a public place and Section 18 wounding with intent. He is in police custody to be questioned.
Detective Inspector Jemma Berry said: “PCSO were actively patrolling the area when they witnessed the incident and quickly responded by giving chase and detaining the suspect.
“Although our officers made a swift arrest we are continuing with our enquiries into the incident, and I would appeal to anyone with information to come forward.
“I ask anyone who lives in the area to please check your doorbell or CCTV footage that may have captured anything which will assist with your enquiries.
“Knife crime has absolutely no place in Merseyside. Every knife we remove from our streets is one less opportunity for harm, and we will continue to take a hard stance against those who carry or use knives.
“We will continue to target such offenders and protect our communities, so if you have information about this incident or someone carrying a knife or know someone involved in knife crime please contact us.”
