Detectives have issued a CCTV image of a man who may be able to assist with their enquiries following reports of an assault which occurred in St Helens.
At around 3am on Saturday 21 February it was reported that a man was assaulted when he approached three other men who were talking to two women on Ormskirk Street in St Helens outside Gibneys Jewellers.
The men repeatedly assaulted the victim when he fell to the floor and then left the area.
The man who was in his 30s suffered an injury to his jaw which required treatment in hospital.
CCTV and witness enquiries have been carried out to identify the suspect responsible, and detectives have now issued an image of a man they believe could assist with their investigation.
Detective Inspector Ruth Tickle said: “This was an unprovoked attack on a young man who was left with several injuries to his face after the assault and we are taking this extremely seriously.
“I am appealing to find the man shown in this CCTV footage, or anyone who recognises him to come forward as we believe he could hold information that could be vital to our continuing enquiries.
“Similarly, if you were on Ormskirk Road at around 3am on Saturday 21 February and saw what happened or have any doorbell footage from that morning of the incident please contact police as soon as possible.
“While several months have passed since the incident, any information you report will be assessed and could be vital to our enquiries.”
