We can confirm an investigation is underway following the death of a man in West Derby.
At around 6.10pm on Friday 5 June, we received a report that a man aged in his 70s had died inside an address on Coachmans Drive.
At this stage, the death is being treated as unexplained and enquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened.
Enquiries are also ongoing to locate the man’s next of kin and we would ask anyone who believes they may know this person to please get in touch.
A post-mortem has been carried out and toxicology enquiries are ongoing.
When emergency services attended the address, there were a number of dogs found inside the home and sadly some of them had died. The RSPCA are aware and are carrying out their own enquiries.
As part of the initial stages of our investigation, a 55-year-old woman from West Derby has been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter, carer ill-treat/wilfully neglect a person and causing unnecessary suffering to an animal. She has been conditionally bailed pending further inquiries.
Temporary Detective Chief Superintendent Helen Bennett said: “Our thoughts at this time are with the family of the man who has sadly passed way.
“As this matter is clearly in the very early stages, we would ask people to avoid speculating and allow us to carry out our enquiries.
“Although we have arrested a person in connection with the investigation, we are still appealing for anyone with information to come forward.”
