A man has been arrested following a reported burglary in Thornton where a car was stolen in the early hours of this morning, Wednesday 17 June.
At around 12.50am patrols quickly responded to a report that a house on Lydiate Lane had been broken into and Audi A6 car had been stolen from the driveway.
Further enquiries were made, and the vehicle was located nearby and a man was detained on Buckley Hill Lane following a foot chase.
A 22-year-old man from Bootle was arrested on suspicion of burglary dwelling, unauthorised taking of a motor vehicle, driving while disqualified and no insurance. He is still in police custody for questioning.
Sefton Area Commander, Karl Baldwin said: “This was undoubtedly a very distressing experience for the occupants. A home break in as an awful experience for anyone, made even worse when they are home at the time.
“Our officers responded quickly and made a swift arrest. However we are continuing with our enquiries, and I would appeal to anyone with information to come forward.
“I ask anyone who lives in the area to please check your doorbell or CCTV footage that may have captured anything which will assist with your enquiries.”
