A man has been charged after protests on County Road on Saturday 13 June.
Two groups of protesters gathered in the area during the afternoon.
A man who was part of a group of protesters made abusive gestures towards officers and other protesters on the opposite side of the road.
The man then moved towards police to breach the cordon and punched an officer. He was quickly removed from the crowd and arrested by officers.
Kieran Bieninda, aged 49, of Waller Close in Liverpool was charged with assaulting an officer and being drunk and disorderly in a public place.
He has been bailed and will appear at Wirral Magistrates Court on Wednesday 1 July.
Superintendent Phil Mullally said: “To attack a police officer when they are just doing their job and protecting others is absolutely despicable.
"We respect the right of individuals to peacefully gather and express their views in accordance with the law, but the use of violence, aggression or abuse towards officers is unacceptable.
“Over the coming weeks we will continue to proactively put a number of measures in place, to patrol the area of County Road and provide reassurance to local businesses and residents.”
