We can confirm that a man has been charged following an incident in Upton.
At around 3.20am on Sunday 28 June, it was reported that a male was acting suspiciously outside a home on Shortfield Road and soon afterwards a fire had been started next to the property.
Officers attended and a suspect was detained at the scene.
Leon Jones, 20, of Ford Way, in Upton, has been charged with arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered and attempted theft. He is due to appear at South Sefton Magistrate’s Court today (Monday 29 June).
Detective Chief Inspector Peter Stephenson said: “Thankfully no one was harmed during this incident, but there were people inside the home so clearly it could have had far worse consequences.
“Thanks to the fast response from officers, they were able to arrest a suspect at the scene. I hope this incident shows our communities how seriously we take reports of this nature.”
