A Section 60 Order will be introduced in Toxteth today (Thursday 4 June) following last night's injury shooting.
The Section 60 Order begins at 6pm and runs until 10am tomorrow, Friday 5 June. It gives officers additional powers to search males and females 13-30 years of age, who are suspected of involvement in criminality and disorder.
The area covered by the order is as follows:
Berry Street junction with Leece Street; Leece Street onto Hardman Street; Hardman Street onto Myrtle Street; Myrtle Street to Crown Street; Crown Street down to Falkner Street; Falkner Street to Smithdown Lane; Smithdown Lane to Upper Parliament Street; Upper Parliament street onto Smithdown Road; Smithdown Road junction with Hartington Road; Hartington Road to Croxteth Road; Croxteth Road onto Ullet Road; Ullet Road to Park Road; Park Road to St James Place; St James Place to Great George Street; Great George Street to Berry Street; Berry Street junction with Leece Street
Liverpool Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Hamish Rawcliffe said: “Section 60 Orders are a powerful tool giving us extra powers to stop people we suspect are involved in criminality.
“It allows us to further disrupt those intent on causing misery and harm on our streets, and search them for weapons, should we suspect them of being involved in criminality.
“It certainly isn’t about affecting people who are going about their lawful business in the area. It is there to make sure such people can live, work and visit the Toxteth area without fear of being exposed to crime.
“I hope that the increased presence of our officers is reassuring, and I continue to ask anyone with concerns to speak to those officers, as well as anyone with information on the incident last night. We will assess all information provided and use all available powers to reduce harm.
“If you witness any criminal behaviour, or have any information about such incidents, please contact or speak to our officers and we will take action.”
Anyone with information about criminality should contact Merseyside Police social media desk using X or Facebook @MerPolCC. You can also report information via or website: https://www.merseyside.police.uk/ro/report/ocr/af/how-to-report-a-crime/ or by calling 101.
