A self-loading pistol has been found hidden under a log in woods in Moreton.
We received a report on Friday 12 June that a semi-automatic pistol containing a magazine, which had ammunition, was found hidden inside a black bin bag in woods near Pasture Road.
The firearm has been made safe and is in the process of being forensically recovered for examination.
Detective Inspector Chris Clark said: “We would like to thank the person who found the firearm for reporting it to us. It will be examined to see if it is viable and forensically tested it to see if it is linked to any incidents.
“We will always take immediate action to incidents involving guns and we are actively working to make Merseyside a safer place to live and work.
“We are committed to taking weapons off our streets and, rest assured, if you tell us about any suspected possession or offences we will investigate.
“Merseyside Police pro-actively investigates serious organised crime including the use of guns and the supply and distribution of drugs on Merseyside and is relentless in its pursuit of offenders.
“Information from the public is vital if we are to breakdown the organised crime groups who bring misery to our streets.”
