UPDATE
The Section 60 Order will now run until 5am on Saturday (6 June).
ORIGINAL ARTICLE
A stop search order continues to be active in Toxteth today (Friday 5 June) following an injury shooting earlier this week.
The Section 60 Order runs until 6pm where it will be further reviewed. It gives officers additional powers to search males and females 13-30 years of age, who are suspected of involvement in criminality and disorder.
The area covered by the order is as follows: Berry Street junction with Leece Street; Leece Street onto Hardman Street; Hardman Street onto Myrtle Street; Myrtle Street to Crown Street; Crown Street down to Falkner Street; Falkner Street to Smithdown Lane; Smithdown Lane to Upper Parliament Street; Upper Parliament street onto Smithdown Road; Smithdown Road junction with Hartington Road; Hartington Road to Croxteth Road; Croxteth Road onto Ullet Road; Ullet Road to Park Road; Park Road to St James Place; St James Place to Great George Street; Great George Street to Berry Street; Berry Street junction with Leece Street.
Liverpool Neighbourhood Chief Inspector Hamish Rawcliffe said: “The Section 60 Order continues to be active. This authority is in place to assist with preventing serious violence helping people in the community to feel safer.
“It enables officers to search people they suspect are carrying weapons and provide reassurance to the community that we are proactively putting measures in place.
“Such action isn’t about bothering anyone going about their daily business or preventing people from meeting with friends. It’s simply about taking action to make sure such people can live, work and visit the Toxteth area without fear of being exposed to violent crime.
“Patrols have also been stepped up to reassure our residents so if you have any information on any offences in the area please speak with our officers.”
