Officers have put in place two crime prevention orders in Anfield this evening, Friday 12 June, following disorder in the area.
At around 12.45pm we called to a report of a large-scale disturbance on Oakfield Road and Walton Breck Road which resulted in one man sustaining a stab wound to the face. He has been taken to hospital for treatment.
Five men aged 19 and 20 years, from Buckinghamshire, Wigan and Galway, have been arrested on suspicion of various offences including Section 18 wounding with intent, affray and possession of a bladed weapon. They are in police custody to be questioned.
Officers have seized a number of weapons from the scene.
In order to prevent any further incidents, a dispersal zone is in place until 1.15pm tomorrow, while the stop search order is active until 2.15pm tomorrow – where both orders will be further reviewed.
Extra officers will be in the area to provide a visible presence to prevent crime or serious violence.
Both orders cover the area shown in the map bounded by Priory Road, Breck Road, Breckfield Road North, Robson Street, Sleepers Hill, Anfield Road, Walton Lane, Priory Road.
The reports relate to disturbances and disorder in the area which is causing distress to residents in the community.
The order comes under Section 34 of the Anti-Social Behaviour & Policing Act 2014, which gives police officers and police community support traffic officers powers to direct people they suspect are causing or likely to cause crime, nuisance or anti-social behaviour to members of the public to leave a designated area and not return for up to 48 hours.
Under the legislation, officers have the power to seize any item, including vehicles, used in the commission of anti-social behaviour. Should a person who has previously been directed to leave the area return, an offence would be committed, which they may ultimately be arrested for.
While the Section 60 Order, under Section60 of the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994, gives officers enhanced stop and search powers to stop individuals in the area and is designed to minimise serious violence.
Superintendent Kris Le Poidevin said: “Such disorder will not be tolerated in Merseyside, and our officers were quickly at the scene and made a number of arrests to restore order in the area.
“There will be a highly visible police presence in the area to robustly deal with any issues and provide reassurance so that no one is subjected to such behaviour.
“We have proactively put the Section 60 Order and Section 34 Dispersal authorities in place to provide us with enhanced powers to stop and search people, and to remove those causing issues from a designated area.
"These additional powers are not about bothering anyone going about their daily business or preventing people from meeting up with friends. It’s simply about taking action to reduce intimidation, anti-social behaviour and violence and make sure that everyone can feel safe.”
