Detectives have charged three men following a complex investigation into several firearm discharges which took place in Liverpool in 2023.

The charges are in connection with the following incidents which occurred in 2023:

  • On 19 May an injury shooting of a man at the Botanic Gardens in Edge Hill resulting in life changing injuries
  • On 3 December a man sustained a gunshot wound to his leg on Rupert Lane in Everton
  • On 13 December a man was threatened with a firearm in a robbery on Netherfield Road South in Everton on 13 December
  • On 13 December a man was shot in the leg on 13 December on Langsdale Street in Everton
  • On 13 December a man was shot on St George's Hill in Everton resulting in life changing injuries

Damon Elliott, 27 years, of no fixed address, has been charged with three counts of possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life, four counts of Section 18 wounding with intent and robbery of a bike.

While Tony Clayton, 29 years, of Baker Way in Kensington, and Kehinde Akinyele, 25 years, of Gloucester Court in Kensington, have been charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition with intent to endanger life, two counts of Section 18 wounding and robbery of a bike.

The three suspects have been remanded into custody and are due to appear at South Sefton Magistrates Court today, Friday 27 March.

Detective Inspector Chris Clark, from the Firearm Investigation Team, said: “We are committed to taking weapons off our streets and, rest assured, if you tell us about any suspected possession or offences we will investigate.

“Our officers regularly search open land to remove potentially lethal weapons from our streets and carry out high-visibility patrols to reassure the public and gather information which we can act upon.

“Information from the public is vital so we can make our communities safer for the decent, law-abiding people who live in areas affected by gun crime.

“Where people are willing to support the police, we will ensure every possible avenue is progressed to protect them.

“And if you don’t feel comfortable coming directly to the police call the independent, anonymous, Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555 111, we need to know who is involved in gun crime and where those guns are being stored.”

Anyone with information about where guns are being stored, in their community can contact Merseyside Police social media desk via X @MerPolCC or on Facebook ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre. You can also report information via our website: https://www.merseyside.police.uk/ro/report/ocr/af/how-to-report-a-crime/ or call 101.

Alternatively, contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111, or via their website here: https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/forms/give-information-anonymously. In an emergency always call 999.
