We arrested a man on suspicion of theft and fraud by false representation after a disabled pensioner had his wallet stolen in Waterloo.
The pensioner was leaving the post office on Lorne Road at around 10am on Friday 1 May when he was approached by man who reportedly distracted him before stealing his wallet containing bank cards and cash.
A short time later an attempt was made to use the bank cards in a nearby petrol station.
A description of the man was circulated, and he was detained by officers a train station nearby at around 12 midday.
A 49-year-old man, of no fixed abode, was arrested on suspicion of theft and fraud by false representation.
He has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Sefton Response Inspector Pete Charnley said: “This is a great example of community policing. The officers attended the scene and were able to carry out a search of the area, detain someone very quickly and offer reassurance to the victim.”
