A teenager has been arrested and a stolen motorbike seized after a theft in St Helens.
On Wednesday 29 May, we received a report that a motorbike had been taken from outside Aldi, on Clock Face Road.
An investigation has been ongoing since and yesterday (Wednesday 6 May) officers saw a group of males stood next to a suspected stolen motorbike in Hale Park, in south Liverpool.
When approached by officers, one of the males tried to flee on the vehicle and during a brief pursuit he drove extremely dangerously and went onto the pavement.
He eventually abandoned the motorbike and was detained nearby. A 16-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of:
He has been bailed pending further enquiries.
Neighbourhood Inspector Michelle Ingram said: “This was fantastic pro-active policing that has not only led to the arrest of a suspect, but also the seizure of a suspected stolen vehicle.
“Anti-social behaviour and the criminal use of bikes impacts so many people and has a detrimental effect on people feeling safe where they live.
“While our officers on proactive patrol are always on the lookout for criminality, we also act on any information on the criminal use of such bikes.
“We will deploy all the necessary tactical responses and resources available in order for us to disrupt those who steal them and use them to commit crime, bring them to justice and seize their vehicles.
“I urge the public to report any illegal or unsafe use of electric bikes, scooters, or motorcycles. Your information helps us take action and keep our communities safe.”
