A woman has been arrested following a stabbing at a hostel in Liverpool city centre this afternoon, Wednesday 27 May.
At around 12.20pm we received a report from North West Ambulance Service that a man had been stabbed in the abdomen inside the accommodation on Leeds Street and the attacker had left the scene.
The victim, a man in his 50s, has been taken to hospital and is in a stable condition.
Officers attended and following a search of the area arrested a 55-year-old woman on suspicion of Section 18 Assault – grievous bodily harm with intent. She is in police custody to be questioned.
Detective Inspector Jemma Berry said: "Knife crime causes devastation across our communities, and we work closely with partners to do all we can to make communities safer.
“'Although we are making good progress in tackling knife crime on Merseyside each incident has the potential to cause serious harm, and we understand that there is work to be done, both in understanding the root causes of knife crime, and educating young people and their families on the risks people take in carrying weapons.
"If you have any information about people carrying a knife in your community, come forward to police or anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
