A suspect has been charged after a man was found seriously injured following an altercation in Toxteth.
Police were called to a row of shops on Berkley Street just before 7pm on Thursday 29 October following reports of a disturbance.
During the incident, it was reported that a punch bag machine was pushed over and landed on a male bystander.
The victim, a man in his 50s, suffered a serious head injury and was taken to hospital.
Following extensive enquiries, officers arrested a suspect yesterday (Sunday 1 November).
Iliasse Alhag, 22 years, of Percy Street, a Moroccan national, has been charged with affray, assault and wounding without intent. He will appear at Liverpool Adult Remand Court today, Monday 2 November.
The victim has today sadly died as a result of his injuries, and the Crown Prosecution Service are reviewing the charges.
Detective Chief Inspector Alyson Keenan said: “We are continuing our enquiries into this incident and urge anyone who was in the area of Berkley Street at the time, or who has information which could assist the investigation, to please get in touch.”
