Section 60 issued in Dingle following incident this afternoon

A Section 60 Order (Criminal Justice and Public Order Act 1994) has been introduced following an incident of suspected disorder in Dingle earlier today, Saturday 19 September.

The authority will be in place from 7.30pm for 24 hours, until 7.29pm tomorrow, Sunday 20 September.

It authorises all males of any ethnicity aged between 14-25 years in the area to be searched if they are believed to be involved in any crimes.

At around 4.55pm, armed police were called to Isaac Street to reports of males fighting in the street, with weapons seen. A vehicle was later found in the street with damage. One man was located nearby and has been arrested on suspicion of Affray. Enquiries continue to identify all of those involved.

The area is bounded by Admiral Street; Northumberland Street; Grafton Street; Garswood Street; Cockburn Street; South Hill Street; Peel Street; Belvidere Street; and Devonshire Road West.

Inspector Simon Newman said: “As we continue to investigate this incident, the increased police powers and presence in the area aims to ensure that the community is kept safe.

“To bring any weapons onto the streets is reckless and will not be tolerated. I would urge anyone who witnessed this incident or captured anything on CCTV, dashcam or doorbell devices to come forward.”
