Paul has served in the police for nearly 32 years, beginning his career as a Constable in Response Policing at Marsh Lane in Bootle in September 1993.
He has performed a number of uniformed roles before being appointed Temporary Assistant Chief Constable for Response & Resolution in March 2022.
Paul retired in May 2025 before successfully applying for the role of Deputy Chief Constable and returning to Merseyside Police.
He has been police Gold commander for a number of high-profile events and incidents in Merseyside such as the visit of the Giants, the Aintree Festival, Eurovision, the disorder of Summer 2024 and numerous high profile football operations. He was also Strategic Firearms Commander for the bombing at Liverpool Women’s Hospital as well as a number of other significant firearms operations.
Deputy Chief Constable White has said, “Our communities depend on our day-to-day policing, and they rightly expect us to continue to constantly improve in every aspect so that the service they receive is among the best in the country.

Deputy Chief Constable White lives in Merseyside and is married with three children.
