Lynsey

I’m a woodwind teacher, tutor, repairer and professional performer from Chester and have been playing in the Merseyside Police band on a voluntary basis for more than 15 years. As well as playing in the band I’m also responsible for all the administration so I’m based at police headquarters in Liverpool one day a week. I also occasionally help run the force’s Mini Police scheme which gives primary school age children the opportunity to help the police with community initiatives like reducing speeding outside of schools. The children really enjoy being take to the police museum!

I first got into volunteering in the band when they needed someone to stand in for the regular flute player. We play at formal police events and also at school and public concerts. Recently we’ve been performing to show how music can help with people’s mental health.

Everyone is work with is absolutely wonderful and supportive and want to see our band bring music to as many people as possible. I’ve made some really good friends since volunteering and I’ve learnt a lot more about behind the scenes in policing and the work the police do to everyone else safe.
