If it’s important to you to put all your focus into your degree so you get the best result you can, or if you want to have the traditional university experience, then the route of achieving a Professional Policing degree before applying to us might be best for you. Studying and working at the same time came be a challenge, and you might prefer to put all your energy into just the academic side of policing first.
For individuals who are interested in understanding the theory of how policing works in our society, or have an interest in law enforcement, a Professional Policing degree can lead to a variety of careers in the wider justice sector.
A degree in Professional Policing can either be done as a two or three year, full-time, course. While most universities traditionally offer the three-year option, a two-year version has now been developed by some universities. You’ll gain a thorough understanding and in-depth knowledge of professional policing with a focus on social sciences, research and legal knowledge. Lecturers will have mixture of academic and professional policing backgrounds, giving you the opportunity to learn from different perspectives.
As with most degrees, assessments will be made up of a mixture of written assignments, presentations and exams. Professional Policing students will also need to undertake self-reflection as part of the assessment process. You’ll be supported by your university through each assessment.
