  • Priority:

We are responding to community concerns linked to drug and alcohol related anti social behaviour in the ward. Over the last month we are aware of reports of drug dealing taking place from residential properties in and around the Fraser Street and London Road areas.

    Issued 01 June 2026

    Action taken:

We continue to work closely with our partners as part of a coordinated multi-agency response to tackle anti-social behaviour within the area. This includes Housing Associations, the Local Authority, and a local hostel, all of whom are committed to reducing the impact of anti-social behaviour linked to both residents and visitors, while ensuring appropriate support is available to those involved.

As part of this work, several Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) have now been issued to key individuals identified as being responsible for anti-social behaviour. These warnings formally require those individuals to cease their offending behaviour. Where individuals fail to comply, we will work with partners to pursue further enforcement action using the powers available to us.

Neighbourhood officers have been actively engaging with residents, business owners and community leaders while on patrol to better understand local concerns and gather valuable information and intelligence. A number of proactive operations have also taken place, with officers carrying out both high-visibility and plain-clothes patrols to provide reassurance to the community and disrupt criminal and anti-social behaviour.

We are aware that a number of local retailers have been targeted by individuals attempting to fund drug and alcohol addictions. In response, funding has been secured for the deployment of a Safer Pod in stores that have been repeatedly affected. This initiative has proved successful in reducing offending and providing a highly visible deterrent to those seeking to commit crime.

Alongside enforcement activity, officers have supported engagement with a local community art project which encourages individuals experiencing addiction to engage positively with support services. By addressing the underlying causes of offending behaviour, this approach seeks to deliver longer-term positive outcomes for both the individuals involved and the wider community.
Information from residents, businesses and community leaders remains vital in helping us identify those responsible for crime and anti-social behaviour. We continue to work alongside partners, schools and local organisations to take positive action, respond proactively to concerns and gather intelligence. This enables us to make full use of the legislation available to tackle offending behaviour and, where appropriate, restrict the presence of those responsible within the area.

If you have information about drug dealing or criminal activity in your community, you can report it anonymously to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555 111 or online at:
    https://crimestoppers-uk.org/give-information/forms/pre-form
Members of the public are encouraged to report incidents via 101, or 999 in an emergency. Reports can also be submitted online or in person at the General Enquiry Offices located at Admiral Street Police Station and St Anne Street Police Station.
